So, Aris’ men are moving to the village Mavrolithari where the units of the ELAS that will participate in the sabotaging will wait. This includes Andreas’ men with Fotis! They marched everywhere, which was a gruelling task for many reasons, including the weather and poor equipment to deal with it.
As I’ve mentioned before, the ELAS partisans were very underfunded. They subsisted on donations from villages which they took frugally. That’s because they didn’t want to be accused of plundering or exploiting the villagers they were in the mountains to protect. All sourcers give vivid accounts of how they were wearing worn out clothes, often left overs from the war. They had equipment which dated anywhere from the turn of the century to 1940. Some even carried the outdated yet still deadly Gras rifle from WWI or even the 1871 bolt action Gras. Fun times).
